Summary of report content

As part of the NHS Long Term Plan (LTP) network-wide project, Healthwatch Herefordshire and Healthwatch Worcestershire engaged 1,819 people through focus groups and online surveys. The main areas of investigation included out of hospital local care, emergency services, specialist services, prevention and self-care, health inequalities, mental health care for children and young people, learning disabilities and autism, and mental health care for adults.

It was found that certain terminology is more accepted than others, such as urgent care rather than minor injury. People are concerned about transport availability and options when attending appointments. Respondents wanted regular and consistent support with low level screening and an increase in reviews for long term conditions. Targeted resources are needed in disadvantaged areas to combat health inequality. Waiting times for mental health support needs to be improved. There needs to be quick access to an early diagnosis which listens to family members regarding learning disabilities and autism.
