Healthwatch Leicester conducted an Enter and View visit to Aaron Court Care Home in February 2019. The home cares for up to 91 residents providing care for those living with dementia.
The report found that the internal environment was clean and tidy and residents could have their rooms personally decorated. Staff reported that the home was understaffed so does not lend time to providing the appropriate care to residents. Residents felt that the staff did not know the residents well and were not very involved with them. It was reported that there was a lack of meaningful activities as some residents felt lonely and would prefer to go for walks instead of watching TV. Meals were regarded as "good" but some complaints arose about the opportunity for alternatives and desserts suitable for diabetics. Residents reported that there is no real effort to celebrate Christmas or birthdays and wheelchair users do not feel they can go outside. Staff reported difficulties accessing dental care for the residents and highlighted issues with mobility and access.
Healthwatch Leicester recommended that the staffing levels are reviews; attention be given to regular daily activities and special events; the catering is improved; consideration be given to suggestions and concerns raised by residents and relatives; and ensure that appropriate training is provided for all staff.
The service provider responded to the recommendations and report comments.
