Summary of report content

Healthwatch Staffordshire conducted 22 Enter and View visits to services that provide day opportunities for people with mild to moderate learning disabilities in Staffordshire between January and April 2019.

The report found that there was a diverse range of services offered for differing needs. The services provided activities (e.g. Day trips, Kayaking and horticulture) and social skills promotion. Some services provided education, training and work experience as well. People’s experience of these services was vital to their wellbeing, providing community, friendship, occupational activity, learning, life and sometimes work experience. The management of such services was passionate and caring. Sensory rooms and therapies were provided alongside low cost sports and rebound therapy. Service users were welcoming and it was clear they enjoyed attending the services.

Recommendations were made to the services directly. However, one recommendation was that regular DBS check need to be made and kept up-to date at regular intervals.
