Healthwatch Bucks conducted an Enter and View visit to Fremantle Court Nursing and Residential Care Home on 30th May 2019. The home provides Nursing and Residential care to up to 82 people, some of whom live with dementia. They engaged 15 residents, 4 visitors and 4 staff members alongside observations of 20 residents and 5 staff.
The report found that staff are friendly and that the residents were satisfied with their care. The residents reported that they had personal choice within the home, particularly over meals, timings and drinks. The care home provides familiar surroundings for residents, including dining areas and an easily accessed garden. Residents told representatives that staff always knocked on doors and waited before entering any bedroom, emphasising the need for privacy.
The report made a number of recommendations including introduce picture menus into all areas where residents live with dementia and changes the font size on the written menus; enable staff to have more time to interact with residents in the lounges and makes use of all the dementia designed items in the home; and increase the number and range of regular exercise activities to include chair-based exercises especially where people live with dementia.
The service provider did not respond to the report.
