Summary of report content

Healthwatch Wakefield reported on their activities during 2018-19. These included: finding out about the changes local people wanted to see in different areas of health and social care including assessments for autism spectrum disorder, compassion in all care, communication from healthcare staff and information provision; tackling barriers to compassion in care; making it easier for young people to get mental health support.

The report includes the story of Debbie, whose poor experience of local children’s continence services for her son led her to work with Healthwatch Wakefield to improve this service. Healthwatch Wakefield reported on: the advice and information they provided people with over the year; their team of volunteers and the work they carried out to improve accessibility for BAME communities; finances; and plans for the next year. The report also features messages from Richard Sloan MBE FRCGP, Healthwatch Wakefield Chair; Sir Robert Francis QC, Healthwatch England Chair; Nichola Esmond, the outgoing Healthwatch Wakefield CEO, and Gary Jevon, the incoming Healthwatch Wakefield CEO.
