On 1st May 2019, an Enter and View was carried out by Healthwatch Sunderland staff and volunteers at Barnes Court Care Home, to capture the residents’ experiences. The home provided care for 53 people with complex physical and neurological needs at the time of the visit.
The report found a strong and visible management with readily available information referring to availability of a private meeting room, activities provided, the cinema room and the complaints procedure at the entrance. While staff skills were rated average, the report found that staff were familiar with resident’s histories and preferences. The home was found to provide a wide range of activities (and ensure residents access these) in the home and support residents in taking part in activities outside the home. The food quality, choice and flexibility of mealtimes were average as was the home’s ability to meet residents’ cultural, religious and lifestyle needs. There was an open environment and opinion of residents and relatives were actively sought. The home was comfortable well maintained with high standards of hygiene.
