In November 2018, Healthwatch Southwark undertook Enter and View visits to the Tower Bridge Care Centre, which is the only nursing home available to publicly-funded Southwark residents within the borough. At the time of their visits, 117 residents lived at the home.
The report found an overall positive experience of the residents with relatives being confident about the care their loved ones were provided. Staff were found to be helpful, engaging and caring; residents were clean and presentably dressed; the home was sensitively decorated, clean and in good condition; the environment seemed safe, appropriate and comfortable for frail residents and those with dementia; food was praised and served in balanced, adequate portions; staff were satisfied with the current management and took part in broad range of training.
The report made recommendations for both the provider and for Southwark Council and Southwark Clinical Commissioning Group, who provided their response to each of the issues Healthwatch Southwark raised in the report.
