Summary of report content

Healthwatch Warrington conducted an Enter and View visit in May 2019 to Westy Hall residential care home. Westy Hall provides residential care to up to 39 residents including people living with dementia, but they are housed in a separate unit. The Enter and View representatives spoke to staff, visitors and residents to gather feedback alongside observations.

The report found that information boards were visible in the reception area with information and photographs of residents doing activities. The Enter and View representatives observed staff being friendly and responsive towards residents. The staff organise various activities including trips out in the community, and there are visitors who come to the home to provide entertainment. A menu was clearly displayed and an alternative is made for residents who would prefer it. The facilities at the home were clean and tidy. It was observed that the home appeared to be well organised, although staff were busy. Staff training includes mandatory advanced dementia care training, end of life care, and manual handling. Staff informed the visiting team that Care Plans are up to date, person-centred and are compiled with input from relatives.

Healthwatch Warrington made recommendations to the home that included all residents and their families are included in the decision-making process. They also recommended that a 'who is who' board be displayed. 

The service provider responded positively to the report.
