On 27 March 2019, Healthwatch Wiltshire made an unannounced Enter and View visit to the Laverstock Care Centre, which provided nursing, residential and dementia care for up to 80 residents. The home had 56 residents at the time of the visit and each resident has their own bedroom with ensuite facilities.
The report found that the home was clean, tidy and well-presented with a calm and relaxed atmosphere. The staff members were open and pleasant and overall the residents appeared to be content with the care provided, although some mentioned that there were not always enough staff available. The views of the relatives were mixed with some satisfied with the care and others feeling more improvement was needed.
The report recommended for the home to continue with the recent improvements including appearance and staff approach; recruit and induct further care staff into vacant posts; monitor care at nights; develop further activities for residents, especially for the isolated ones and involve them by using a suggestion box; improve the signage from the main road and prioritise the ongoing management.
The providers responded by saying they either already complied with or were in the process of changing the facilities as recommended by Healthwatch Wiltshire.
