On 29 January 2019, Healthwatch Shropshire undertook an Enter and View visit to the Danesford Grange Care Home, which provided nursing and residential care for 43 residents, most of whom had dementia.
The report found that the home was being refurbished after having been extended recently; there were newly appointed managers, but staff worked well as a team; some staff however did not wear a name badge; the building lacked consistency in being dementia friendly with newer rooms having better facilities; the end of life care given was good and residents were given choice regarding food and clothing with regular access to health support services; staff were satisfied with the training they received and had a good and natural interaction with the residents.
The report recommended for ongoing refurbishments to be consistently dementia friendly across the whole home; consider changing the decor of the lounge; better advertise group and individual therapies; ensure all staff wear their badges; use the facilities as appropriate; launch the updated website as soon as possible; having pictorial menus and name boards outside each resident’s room.
The providers responded by saying they had either complied with or were in the process of changing the facilities as recommended by Healthwatch Shropshire.
