Healthwatch Havering conducted an announced Enter and View visit to Romford Care Centre in September 2018. The home provides care for up to 114 residents, most of which live with dementia, and is divided into 5 units. Information was gathered through interviews with 15 residents, staff and visitors, alongside observations.
The report found that the home was clean, tidy and well equipped. There was a notice at the entrance advertising relatives’ meetings, with a relatives’ forum taking place every month. Care plans charts were reviewed monthly, unless circumstances changed, and fluid charts were in place. Staff were trained online and in-house, particularly around End of Life care and palliative care. A number of visitors reported that they were concerned about the care their loved ones were receiving. For example, they reported slow responses to the residents daily needs.
No recommendations were made as Healthwatch Havering felt that the manager had been in the post for a few days and had not had the opportunity to get to know the staff and residents yet.
