On 22nd March 2019, Healthwatch Sunderland undertook an Enter and View visit to The Pavillion care home. The centre could accommodate 68 people in total but were caring for 60 residents at the time of the visit who required nursing, residential, Enduring Mental Ill Health residential and nursing care. Healthwatch staff spoke to residents, relatives and staff to what it was like to live in this Home.

The findings of the report state that there was a strong visible management with well-trained and motivated staff who were familiar with resident’s histories and preferences and had processes in place for how to monitor changes in their health and wellbeing; a wide range of activities was available for residents with support for taking part in activities outside the home; the quality, choice and flexibility around food and mealtimes was rated as average but the atmosphere in the dining area was relaxed and friendly; there was regular access to health professionals such as GPs, Dentists, Opticians, Chiropodists and Audiologists; the residents’ cultural, religious and lifestyle needs were accommodated without making others feel uncomfortable; there was an open environment where feedback was actively sought and used; the home was comfortable, homely, well maintained with high standards of hygiene.
