Summary of report content

On 24th April 2019, authorised representatives from Healthwatch Bucks undertook an unscheduled Enter and View visit to the Hillside Care Home, who were given up to 2 weeks’ notice of the visit but not the time and date. The home provided nursing care for 64 residents with a range of needs.

The findings of the report show that everyone at the Home spoke highly of the care given; residents felt they were treated as individuals and people were encouraged to be as independent as they could be. An overall four star was given which included individual four stars to treatment of residents, choices of food and lifestyle, home-like environment, privacy and quality of life.

The report recommended to create pictorial menus and / or present two plates of food to each resident who can no longer read; ensure everyone is aware they have a choice of food and what that might be at every meal; make the main garden area more appealing and encourage more residents to use the garden; remind staff to close bedroom doors when personal care is being given; look to provide fiddle boards for those who would like more active things to do and / or look at contacting Men in Sheds in Aylesbury; introduce more seated exercise sessions.

The providers responded by saying they already provide pictorial menus in advance. They have further taken or are in the process of taking actions based on the Healthwatch recommendations.
