Healthwatch Milton Keynes conducted an arranged Enter and View visit to Bluebirds Neurological Care Centre. The care centre supports up to 25 adults living with degenerative neurological conditions including dementia, Alzheimer’s and acquired brain injury. The Enter and View representatives made a number of observations and were able to gather feedback from one resident and two relatives.
The report found that staff engaged with residents in a friendly and caring manner. One relative told the representatives that each resident has a Personal Activity Programme tailored to their individual needs, with activities such as dog therapy and food tastings. It was observed that all staff, regardless of grade or role, knew the residents well and addressed each of them by their first name. The premises were light, clean and tidy. The private rooms were well-furnished with en-suite facilities. Residents can choose the colour of their ‘front door’, which also displays their name and family photo, to assist them in identifying their rooms. Lunch was served at 12 o'clock and staff were seen to gently encourage residents to choose a place to eat. Additional support was provided to those who needed help to eat and swallow food.
Healthwatch Milton Keynes made no recommendations due to the high standard of care delivered by the care centre. They highlight that Bluebirds Neurological Care Centre demonstrates excellent examples of good practice in the delivery of this particular client group. The service provider responded positively to the report.
