Enter and view: The Oaks Residential Care Home

Healthwatch Wigan and Leigh conducted an announced Enter and View visit in December 2018. The report detailed feedback from 127 members of staff, twelve visitors and eight residents through questionnaires, observations and unstructured interviews.
Observations made by the Enter and View representatives included: residents looking tidy and clean with staff and facilities respecting their dignity; the staff interacted with residents positively, appropriately and regularly; and a wide variety of activities are offered and there were plans to offer more. Residents reported that the were happy with the care they received at the home and visitors stated that each resident is treated well with supportive and individualised care. Staff reported that they continually receive training and thoroughly enjoy their work.
Recommendations were made by the Healthwatch representatives and included that the home continue to improve access to a variety of activities both in and out of the home; and monitor the management of the residents’ laundry.
The service provider responded positively to the Healthwatch Enter and View representatives. They suggested that an activities review be undertaken and an audit of the laundry service.
