Healthwatch Sheffield conducted an Enter and View visit to Park Bank House,a residential care home, in November 2018. The visit was part of a planned series of visits to residential and nursing homes, looking at the quality of care provided. Observation and unstructured interviews were used with 11 residents, staff and relatives.
Residents reported that they were happy at the home, and were positive about the treatment and staff. It was also reported that they enjoy the large range of activities that are on offer. Residents had access to regular visits from health professionals. Staff reported that they felt supported by the organisation and received appropriate training with the opportunity for refresher training. Observations made by the Enter and View representatives included that: staff were caring towards residents with a positive attitude and the building and environment was well-maintained. It was also observed that care plans were handed over between shift teams, suggesting that staff actively keep track of this.
Healthwatch Sheffield recommended that staff provide an alternative way for residents to choose meals that is not in person; the Care Home Manager ensures residents and visitors are involved in the design of planned maintenance work by the head office; and staff reassure residents that the changes to the way activities are organised and delivered will not impact their frequency or quality.
The service provider response provided a positive response to the visit and the resulting report.
