Healthwatch Trafford conducted an Enter and View visit in October 2018 at Brookfield nursing home that provides care fro up to 21 elderly residents, including post-operative care. The home specialises in end of life care.
The observations made during the visit included: a clean and fresh environment with spacious rooms and communal areas; a range of activities were offered to residents such as Zumba; felxibility around mealtimes such as food choices and location of meals.
Residents reported that they were looked after well and if they had a problem they felt comfortable asking for help and this was supported by the positive feedback from relative's about their care. The staff reported that they felt happy to be working at Brookfield nursing home and that the management is very supportive. The manager commented that residents retain their own GP if they are within the same area and that those who have moved from outside this area are placed with empathetic GP practices.
Healthwatch Trafford recommended the following actions that need to be taken by the care home. These included, removing a step hazard, increasing access to the salon and hair washing facilities. The management has responded positively to the report and has purchased equipment to resolve these issues, such as blow-up hair washing bowls.
