Healthwatch Trafford conducted an Enter and View in a Residential Home that cares for up to 24 elderly people in October 2018. They used observations and questionnaires that were sent to relatives of residents and staff members. Feedback was gathered from 15 residents, 13 relatives and 8 members of staff.
Observations made by the Enter and View representatives include: health and safety standards were upheld, the layout of the building was easily navigated and open, and bedroom doors had residents' photographs and information of their hobbies. The food quality and choice was good with readily available drinks within reach of residents. Residents commented that the activities provided in the home were varied and have recently increased. The residents told representatives that they were looked after well.
The management of the home has recently changed and residents commented that they were able to provide feedback and were aware of the complaints procedure. Staff training has been enhanced since this change as all staff members have received dementia training, giving them more confidence when delivering care.
The report recommends that the care home should review it's laundry process, review the support in the garden for those requiring hoisting and staff should encourage residents to move after surgery.
