Healthwatch Doncaster conducted an Enter and View on Plantation View Care Home housing 25 residents in October 2018.
This visit was undertaken as part of a series of Enter and View visits in local care homes to build a picture of the quality and range of care provision in Doncaster from a resident’s perspective.
Enter and View representatives observed that the environment was clean and tidy despite the rooms having a challenging footprint; good outside area; bedrooms individually decorated; up to date notice boards; some parts of the care home were more dementia friendly than others; seemed to be respect for privacy and dignity of residents; staff seemed to get on well with residents; the home promotes independence, but door frames not wide enough to accommodate large wheelchairs; residents appear very happy; activities coordinator in place and activities observed; good cross section of group and individual activities available; residents cannot all eat in the same location due to layout of home; access to drinks and snacks throughout the day; visitors claimed staffing was inadequate.
Recommendations for staffing in all lounges being used by residents as a health and safety issue. Other minor changes include ensuring that the home is dementia friendly environment; greater promotion of activity timetables.
A positive response from the provider has been received with indication of changes made in line with the recommendations.
