Healthwatch Kent held a second meeting with patients, professionals and carers to discuss their experiences of neurological services in East Kent. The report aimed to identify any changes that have been made since the last organised meeting.
The report states that patients continue to be given little information following discharge from neurological services and patients would like to be involved in decisions about product changes. Since the last meeting, a lead neurological service is being appointed to encourage consistency throughout the services, and that a Physical Disability Forum has been introduced to support those who have experienced long delays for wheelchairs and repairs.
The report explained the next steps in their work to improve neurological services in East Kent. These included: a strategic overview with the East Kent Hospitals and their commissioner; seek clarity about patient pathways for commissioners; obtain an update on the plans for a central information database; review of referring to voluntary organisations; and introduce patient forums for neurology and rehabilitation.
