Healthwatch Camden attended 13 community events to find out about the people’s experience of local services in summer 2017. This work was part of a programme to identify what local people want Healthwatch Camden to focus on in relation to local health and social care services. Over 650 votes were cast.
The report identifies key issues. There were concerns raised about funding cuts for disabled people, and the privatisation of NHS services. People expressed interest to extend and preserve the cancer screening programme, particularly when doctors do not take people seriously. The lack of information where to find local and social activities for older people was an issue. Long waiting times for mental health services was also noted.
One respondent said, “Cancer screening is important - sometimes the doctors think you are a hysterical woman if you go in too much” (Kentish Town Community Centre)
The report made no recommendations.
