On 13th July 2017, Healthwatch Oxfordshire held a meeting for voluntary sector organisations and community groups with a focus on health inequalities. The forum was held in Abingdon, at the Preston Road Community Centre and 50 people attended the meeting representing 28 different voluntary sector and statutory organisations.
The Forum identified current challenges/gaps in services including:
- Geographical inequalities are akin to a postcode lottery
- The unequal impact of cuts in funding to public services with the most negative impact on the most vulnerable people in society.
- Inequalities in access to technology
- Inequalities in access to information
- Inequalities in data on different sub groups of the population
- The role of the voluntary sector in tackling health inequalities
The forum came up with suggestions on what could be done to tackle health inequalities
