This is a report which was written by Healthwatch Bolton detailing people’s views on Technology Enabled Care and what their awareness and use of technology were for health. These views were collected via a survey which people completed online or visiting the TEC event which was ran by Healthwatch Bolton in Bolton Town Centre on 3rd August 2017.
There were 211 people who took part with the report providing results regarding:
Whether people have heard of the term ‘TEC’
Whether people had access to the Internet
What people used the Internet and technology for
How people access health and wellbeing information
What apps people used that are health related
What people would use TEC for and what they thought the associated barriers were
The report was then concluded with suggestions for next steps and conclusions based on the findings which were as following:
Nearly all respondents had access to the internet but few used technology for health related purposes and very few have heard or understood TEC.
People identified lack of information about health and care related technologies and access to them as major barriers to exploring TEC.
Many people saw TEC too complex to use. Some expressed willingness to ‘explore’ for ‘private’ health and care related issue.
Following on from the conclusions, Healthwatch Bolton provided recommendations to commissioners and to providers.
