Healthwatch Halton conducted an Enter and View on Oakmeadow Community Support Centre, Widnes. It is is situated in a multi-use building, which is a busy location and within walking distance of a wide range of local amenities. It offers a range of services for adults of all ages requiring accommodation in the reablement Intermediate Care Unit. It also provides Intermediate Care, Day Care and carers break day care. The residential intermediate care unit is equipped to accommodate up to 19 people.

The visit was conducted on 12th September 2017.

The visit was arranged as part of Healthwatch Halton’s enter and view schedule.

Observation by the enter and view representatives reported that:

In general the comments and observations were mainly positive with the residents giving positive feedback about the staff and facilities available.

Healthwatch Halton made the following recommendations in the report:

To engage with Healthwatch Halton when any health or social care issues arise for staff or residents.

To offer residents social activities in the communal areas.

Complete the Herbert Protocol forms for residents with Dementia.

We felt that the addition ofs ome colour to the centre, either with new décor or some bright pictures and photographs would be of benefit.

Halton Borough council provided a response to the recommendations that agreed with the first two recommendations but stating they do not support the Herbert protocol.
