Summary of report content

Healthwatch Cumbria conducted an Enter and View on Stonecross Manor Care Home, Cumbria, a nursing home run by Cumbria County Council. The visit was conducted on20th April 2017.

The visit was arranged as part of Healthwatch Cumbria's enter and view schedule.

Observation by the enter and view representatives reported that:

This was the third visit by the team as the first two visits were unsuccessful due to refusal of entry by the management for legitimate reasons.

The home was clean and well maintained.

Access to healthcare was arranged if necessary and an optician came once a year. The optician would visit in between annual appointments if required.

The were pets (hamsters) for the residents ti ineract with.

There was a varied activities schedule.

The garden was easily accessed through double glazed french doors. The garden was multi level and easily accessed with wide paths and no steps. There were several high raised flower beds, a potting shed and a rabbit in a hutch on the lawn.

The food was liked by the residents.

The staff at the care home were commended for their pro-activeness and creativity in ensuring that residents are given the opportunity to integrate with the community outside of the home, be involved in the choices of activities, foods and running of the home as much as they want to in order to feel that they live “at home” and not in a institution.
