Healthwatch Staffordshire conducted an Enter and View visit on the Chemotherapy Unit at The County Hospital on 1 August 2017.
Observation by the Enter and View representatives reported:
- staff were welcoming, friendly, helpful and supportive;
- there appeared to be adequate staff on duty;
- patients appeared to be safe and comfortable;
- the unit appeared to be well-managed;
- the access corridor, bathrooms and kitchen were spotlessly clean;
- areas of good practice noted include: relationship between staff and patients, support provided by staff from the diagnosis to the extensive aftercare, new prescription service which has reduced waiting times, a hair salon to help patients deal with hair loss, staff support to patients' families;
- amazing difference since the previous visit in 2015 - the new unit is large, beautifully decorated and calm.
One patient commented that staff have been amazingly supportive throughout her treatment and seem like friends now.
One recommendation was made to find a sponsor to renovate the garden - this would improve the patients' view from the windows of the unit.
There was no provider response included in the report.
