On 22nd February 2017, Healthwatch Bath and North East Somerset conducted an Enter and View visit to Cranhill Nursing Home, which was registered to provide nursing and personal care for adults over 65 years. The home could accommodate up to 31 people, but there were 26 residents living in the home on the day of the visit.
Observations by the Enter and View representatives reported that: Cranhill Nursing Home was exceptionally clean, tidy and fresh smelling throughout, it was well furnished and decorated but at the time of the visit and from residents and staff comments it appeared that communal areas were not well used. Whilst the home had an ethos of respecting resident’s social preferences, volunteers felt that more could be done to actively promote interaction and sociability between residents. A history of long-serving staff and support from senior management demonstrated good staff working relationships and conditions, it was commendable that the home did not experience frequent staff turnover.
The report made 12 recommendations for improvement and the service providers responded to most.
