Summary of report content

Healthwatch Havering conducted an enter and view visit to Ashling House, 21st June 2017, as part of their aim to visit all health and social care facilities in the borough, to ensure that all services delivered are acceptable and the safety of the residents is not compromised in any way.

The team were met by the owner/Manager of the home.

Ashling House was very well presented and homely with numerous personal touches. Some of the residents were sitting in the lovely air conditioned sun room reading, chatting and listening to music on the Amazon Alexa system.

The home had a resident dog and cat, which gives great joy and comfort to the residents, especially those receiving palliative care.

Residents’ health and food intake and pressure sores were closely monitored. The report explains the training the staff have received. The Manager had an open door policy for all relatives and carers to come and discuss issues as and when they need to.

The team spoke to one resident who told them how much she loved being there – she told the team that it was a wonderful, happy place and she had a happy life there. Residents looked healthy, well-dressed and had good interaction with the staff.

No recommendations were made by the team as they considered this as a well presented and comfortable home.
