Summary of report content

Healthwatch Ealing prepared a statistical summary of the bed occupancy of North West London hospitals, for the winter months in 2015-2016 and 2016-2017.

This was work was done as part of Healthwatch Ealing’s analysis of NHS statistics, that is produced by London North West Healthcare Trust. The analysis covered the rate of bed occupancy at Northwick Park, Ealing, and Central Middlesex Hospitals, during the winter period.

The report highlighted that the NHS’s out-of-hospital strategy aimed to move 30% of hospital patients, who did not need to stay in hospital, to be accommodated in the community. It raised concerns at the consistently high level of bed occupancy in North West London hospitals, both day after day, and year-after-year. The rate of bed occupancy was consistently at nearly full capacity (99%), which showed that the strategy was not effective.
