The Highcroft Care Home is a residential care home in Blackpool for up to 31 residents aged over 65 years of age who require nursing or personal care. According to the registered manager, there are around 70% of residents that have some form of advanced dementia or memory impairment issue.
The visit was arranged as part of Healthwatch Blackpool’s enter and view schedule and was conducted on 5th September 2016 where 5 resients and 2 family members shared their views.
Observation by the enter and view representatives reported that:
Overall, residents and their families were very happy with the care they received at The Highcroft. However, there were mixed comments raised with some being positive and some being negative.
The residents felt that their care was “genuine” and that the staff were always “watching out” for them.
There were mixed views regarding mealtimes even though most were positive and there were mixed views regarding the concerns and complaints.
Once the observation had been carried out, Healthwatch Blackpool suggested some recommendations which The Highcroft listened to and acted on to make the relevant changes.
