Highbury House is a nursing home in Blackpool which has a capacity of up to 27 residents and supports those in need of nursing or personal care and those with mental health issues including dementia. The visit was an announced visit as part of Healthwatch Blackpool's enter and view scheduled, was conducted on 12th August 2016 and 5 residents and 2 famliy members were consulted for their views.
The home had recently undergone some renovation and appeared to be decorated to a good standard.
The home also employs 18 staff members including an activities co-ordinator and they also hold monthly resident meetings where families are encouraged to have a say on the care their relatives receive.
Observation by the enter and view representatives reported that:
There were some mixed comments from the residents and their family members about the care home, some being positive and some being negative.
In general, the residents seemed to be happy with the home as it was stated that they were happy with the recent improvements and improved décor.
However, there were some mixed comments about the staff (whether they found them approachable or not), staffing levels, food and drink and the variety of activities on offer.
After the observation, there were no recommendations given and when the service provider was given opportunity to feedback, they did not give a response.
