Summary of report content

This Enter and View report examines patient experiences and care delivery at West Middlesex University Hospital – Lampton Ward, a ward specialising in the care of older people. Healthwatch Hounslow visited the ward to observe the environment, speak with patients, visitors and staff, and assess how effectively the service was meeting patients’ needs.

The visit found a clean and well-maintained ward where patients generally reported positive experiences of care and treatment. Patients praised the quality of food, communication from consultants and the care they received from many staff members. The report also identified some concerns relating to staff responsiveness, uncertainty about discharge arrangements, access to information about test results and the availability of medical cover during weekends. Staff described strong multidisciplinary working, robust discharge monitoring and ongoing efforts to manage workforce pressures.

Healthwatch Hounslow concluded that patients were receiving good-quality care in a safe and supportive environment. The report highlighted the importance of keeping patients informed about their treatment and discharge plans, while recognising the ward’s commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and coordinated care for older people.
