Summary of report content

This Enter and View report assesses the quality of care provided at Derwent Lodge Care Centre, a nursing home supporting older people, including those living with dementia. Healthwatch Hounslow visited the service to observe care practices, review the care environment and gather feedback from staff and visitors about their experiences of the home.

The review found that residents appeared well presented and comfortable, and the home offered a calm environment. However, significant concerns were identified regarding staff training, safeguarding knowledge, use of agency staff, equipment maintenance, incident reporting and management oversight. Staff reported inconsistent support under previous management arrangements, while observers noted potential risks relating to safety procedures, documentation and clinical practice.

Healthwatch Hounslow concluded that although staff demonstrated commitment to residents, improvements were needed to strengthen governance, staff competence and resident safety. The report highlighted concerns to commissioners and recognised that a new management team was beginning to address historic issues through improved supervision, training and quality assurance processes.
