Summary of report content

Healthwatch Lancashire carried out an enter and view visit to Broadway Medical Centre in Fleetwood on 27 April 2026 to gather feedback on patients’ experiences of accessing and using the practice. Healthwatch spoke with eight patients and five members of staff and observed the environment, accessibility and interactions between patients and staff. The practice serves approximately 9,700 registered patients and is part of the Fleetwood Primary Care Network.

Overall, feedback was positive, with patients describing staff as caring, helpful and attentive. Patients reported being able to access same-day appointments when needed and were generally satisfied with the quality of care and treatment they received. Staff were also positive about their experiences of working at the practice and felt able to manage their workload effectively whilst providing person-centred care.

Healthwatch found the practice to be accessible, well maintained and welcoming, with positive interactions observed between staff and patients. However, some patients felt communication could be improved, particularly around medication, test results and health information. Patients also suggested increasing the range of appointments that can be booked online. Awareness of the Patient Participation Group was very low, with seven of the eight patients spoken to unaware of its existence.

Healthwatch concluded that Broadway Medical Centre provides a good standard of care in a positive environment. Recommendations included improving information about out-of-hours services, increasing the variety of seating in waiting areas, introducing more dementia-friendly signage, raising awareness of the Patient Participation Group, exploring additional online booking options and improving communication of health and wellbeing information to patients.
