Summary of report content

Healthwatch Somerset carried out an enter and view visit to Highfield House on 11 October 2024 to understand residents’ experiences of living in the home and accessing care services. The visit included discussions with residents, relatives and staff, although the report did not specify how many people were interviewed.

The visit found that residents were generally positive about the care and support they received and described staff as kind, caring and respectful. Healthwatch observed positive interactions between staff and residents and found that people were supported to maintain their dignity, independence and personal preferences.

Residents and relatives spoke positively about communication with staff, the quality of meals and the range of activities available. Healthwatch also noted a welcoming environment and evidence that residents were encouraged to participate in decisions about their care and daily lives.

Healthwatch concluded that Highfield House provided a caring and supportive environment. The report identified examples of good practice and made recommendations aimed at further improving residents’ quality of life and experiences of care.
