Healthwatch Hampshire undertook an Enter and View visit to Westacre Nursing Home on 16 July 2026.
The visit found that the home provided a calm, welcoming and largely positive environment for residents. Residents, relatives and staff consistently described staff as caring, supportive and responsive, and Healthwatch observed kind and respectful interactions throughout the home. The home was clean, comfortable and accessible, with a dementia-friendly garden, personalised bedrooms and a range of communal spaces. Residents generally reported feeling safe, well cared for and satisfied with the food, activities and support they received.
The report highlighted several areas of good practice, including strong management, a stable workforce, positive relationships with healthcare services and a varied programme of activities and outings. Family members praised the quality of care, communication and coordination of support. However, some residents expressed concerns about limited independence, access to outdoor exercise and feelings of loneliness or isolation. Healthwatch also noted a noticeable odour in some carpeted areas of the home and identified challenges around access to physiotherapy services and specialist equipment following hospital discharge.
Healthwatch Hampshire recommended reviewing support for residents at risk of loneliness, continuing to monitor room temperatures and hydration during hot weather, improving odour management, involving residents more in menu planning and continuing efforts to secure appropriate physiotherapy and falls support. Overall, the report concluded that Westacre Nursing Home provides caring and responsive support with many examples of good practice and a strong commitment to ongoing improvement.
