Summary of report content

Healthwatch Bolton undertook an Enter and View visit to Rivington View Nursing Home on 5 May 2016.

The visit found that the home provided a clean, welcoming and homely environment where residents felt safe, comfortable and well cared for. Residents and visitors spoke very positively about the quality of care and the way individual needs were respected. Staff were observed interacting warmly with residents, checking on their wellbeing regularly and treating people with dignity and respect. Residents were also complimentary about the food and felt the home supported personal choice and independence.

Visitors consistently praised the home and described staff as caring, attentive and supportive. Staff reported positive working relationships with residents and families and said they had opportunities for ongoing training and development. The new manager outlined plans to introduce key workers and named nurses, improve activities, recruit volunteers and create a dedicated craft and activity room. Residents were generally satisfied with the activities available and felt able to choose whether or not to participate.

Healthwatch Bolton concluded that the home was operating to a very good standard with regard to dignity and respect. Recommendations included reducing clutter in the entrance hall area, supporting the manager's planned improvements and continuing to build on the positive relationships between staff, residents and families. The report also highlighted good partnership working with local healthcare services and noted that recent improvements had been made following a previous CQC inspection.
