Summary of report content

Healthwatch Lancashire undertook an Enter and View visit to Central Park Surgery on 23 June 2026. The visit found that patients were very positive about the practice, describing staff as friendly, supportive and approachable. Patients reported that appointments were generally easy to obtain and appreciated both the continuity of care and the surgery's updated prescription process.

Healthwatch observed courteous and respectful interactions between staff and patients throughout the visit. The surgery was found to be clean, accessible and well signposted internally, with facilities including automatic doors, accessible toilets, a self-check-in system and information boards. Staff reported feeling well supported by management, described workloads as manageable and highlighted the positive working culture within the practice.

A small number of areas for improvement were identified. Most patients were unaware of the Patient Participation Group and wanted more information about how to get involved. Patients also suggested that the Friends and Family feedback box should be more visible and that waiting times should be displayed when clinics are running behind. Staff felt more information could be provided to patients to support understanding of health conditions and treatments, and there were concerns about awareness of support available for people with additional communication needs, particularly British Sign Language users. Privacy at reception when taking phone calls was also highlighted as an issue.

Healthwatch Lancashire recommended improving information about the Patient Participation Group and carers' support, introducing a larger feedback box, displaying waiting times during delays, installing a dementia-friendly clock, improving staff awareness of accessibility and reasonable adjustments, enhancing privacy at reception and reviewing patient information resources. The practice accepted all recommendations and had already implemented most of them by July 2026, with work ongoing to improve privacy arrangements at reception.
