Healthwatch Waltham Forest undertook research on a pop-up community health clinic held at Walthamstow Central on 30 January 2024. They received feedback from 57 people who attended the event, most of whom were registered with a GP and nearly half of whom reported having a long-term health condition.
People attended the clinic to see a doctor or another healthcare professional, find out what services were available locally and seek support for a range of health concerns. Feedback highlighted that many attendees found it easier to access services in person through the event than through traditional routes, with some reporting difficulties obtaining GP appointments or navigating online systems.
The event was very positively received. Ninety-six per cent of respondents said they were satisfied or very satisfied with the event, 88% said they fully got what they needed, and 80% said it made them more likely to use local services. Attendees particularly valued the opportunity to access multiple services in one place and receive information, advice and support from healthcare professionals.
Suggestions for improvement included providing more dental support, extending opening hours, improving advertising so people were aware of all available services before attending, addressing noise and privacy concerns within the venue, and introducing a clearer queuing and calling system. Overall, the feedback indicated strong support for similar community-based health events in the future.
