Healthwatch Lewisham carried out an Enter and View visit to Woodham Home Stanstead in March 2026. The service provides supported accommodation for six residents with mental health needs, learning disabilities and autism. Overall, residents reported feeling safe, well supported and happy living at the home. Relationships with staff were described positively, and residents spoke favourably about the activities, food and day-to-day support they received.
The home offered residents a high degree of independence while providing personalised support when required. Residents had access to individual en-suite bedrooms, communal living areas and opportunities to participate in activities such as community outings, church attendance, gym sessions and social events. Staff demonstrated a person-centred approach, taking account of residents’ cultural, communication and support needs. Feedback from both residents and staff suggested that support was delivered with dignity and respect.
Healthwatch identified some environmental and accessibility issues. Although the home was generally clean and comfortable, some bathrooms required deep cleaning and minor repairs, external signage was absent, and some room signage was inconsistent. Potential safety concerns were noted around residents accessing steep garden steps, while access to upper floors was only available via stairs. Healthwatch also found limited evidence of communication tools being used to support a resident who did not share a common language with staff, and staff were not wearing visible name badges.
Healthwatch concluded that Woodham Home Stanstead provides a positive, supportive and person-centred environment where residents generally have good experiences of care. Recommendations focused on improving environmental maintenance, strengthening communication support and wayfinding, enhancing safety arrangements, increasing staff identification through name badges, expanding staff development opportunities and introducing more structured wellbeing support for staff. The provider accepted the recommendations and outlined actions to address each area.
