Enter and view: Ashgrove Care Home

Healthwatch North East Lincolnshire carried out an Enter and View visit to Ashgrove Care Home in August 2026 following feedback received from a member of the public. Overall, the home was found to be clean, welcoming and well maintained, with residents generally positive about the care they received. Staff were observed to be caring, respectful and responsive to residents’ needs, and the home appeared calm and comfortable. 

Residents spoke positively about staff, food and the support they received. The home offered a range of facilities including a cinema room, tearoom and attractive communal areas, and residents had access to healthcare professionals including GPs, district nurses, opticians and chiropodists. Staff described a supportive working environment and spoke positively about teamwork and management support. 

Feedback from relatives was more mixed. While some were happy with the care provided, concerns were raised about residents wandering into other rooms, clothing going missing and a lack of trips outside the home. One relative felt residents spent long periods sitting or sleeping. Healthwatch did not observe organised activities taking place during the visit, although residents and staff described a programme of activities that included bingo, knitting, walking, visiting performers and therapy dog visits. 

Healthwatch concluded that Ashgrove provides a caring environment with positive staff-resident relationships and good standards of care. Recommendations focused on increasing structured activity provision, introducing more dementia-friendly signage and clocks throughout the home, and ensuring staff wear name badges so residents, relatives and visitors can identify them more easily.
