Healthwatch Liverpool held a listening event at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital in June 2018, gathering feedback from 66 patients and visitors across inpatient wards and outpatient clinics. Overall, feedback was extremely positive, with an average rating of 4.7 out of 5. Patients consistently praised the quality of care, professionalism of staff and the reassurance they received during treatment. Many described staff as friendly, knowledgeable and compassionate.
The strongest positive themes were staff attitudes, quality of treatment and clear communication. Patients reported feeling well informed about their care and said staff took time to answer questions and explain procedures. Many also valued the efficiency of services and appreciated being treated closer to home rather than travelling elsewhere for specialist cardiac and respiratory care.
The main concerns related to parking, accessibility and outpatient waiting areas. Some patients reported difficulties finding parking spaces, suggested a closer drop-off point, and felt signage could be clearer. Others highlighted overcrowding in outpatient waiting areas, occasional delays to appointments and difficulties hearing their names being called. A small number also wanted clearer appointment letters and more information before attending clinics.
Healthwatch concluded that Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital was highly regarded by patients and visitors, with staff and clinical care identified as major strengths. Recommendations focused on improving parking arrangements, communication in outpatient areas, signage and waiting room facilities, while maintaining the high standards of care that patients consistently praised.
