Enter and view: Luke's Place

Healthwatch Luton carried out an Enter and View visit to Luke’s Place on 19 February 2026. The home provides residential support for adults with learning disabilities and autistic spectrum disorder. Overall, Healthwatch found a clean, comfortable and well-maintained environment with a calm atmosphere. Residents appeared settled and comfortable, and staff were observed providing supportive, person-centred care. 

Staff demonstrated a good understanding of residents’ individual needs and adapted communication methods accordingly. One resident was observed enjoying a computer game with support from a key worker, while another was supported to develop communication skills using a communication board and other personalised approaches. Residents were also supported to access healthcare services and participate in community activities. 

The home offered opportunities for residents to take part in activities both at home and in the wider community. Residents were able to choose how they spent their time, including accessing local cafés, using the garden and swimming pool, and engaging in activities that reflected their interests. The home also used visual menus and picture-based prompts to support residents in making choices about meals and daily routines.

Healthwatch concluded that Luke’s Place provides a supportive and personalised service in a homely environment. The only recommendation was to continue developing opportunities for structured activities within the home. Overall, the report highlighted positive staff-resident relationships, strong communication support and a commitment to promoting residents’ independence and wellbeing.
