Summary of report content

Healthwatch Liverpool carried out an Enter and View visit to Storrsdale Medical Centre in January 2016. Overall, the practice made a very positive impression. Healthwatch found the premises clean, bright and accessible, with good facilities for patients, including accessible consulting rooms, online appointment systems and clear information displays. Patients and members of the Patient Participation Group (PPG) spoke highly of the practice, describing it as friendly, personal and well organised.

Patients praised the quality of care and the attitude of staff, commenting that GPs and nurses took time to listen, explained things clearly and were approachable. Many felt that appointments were generally easy to obtain and valued the continuity of care available in a smaller practice. Patients with long-term conditions reported receiving regular reviews and support, while carers and relatives highlighted positive experiences with home visits and ongoing management of health conditions.

A particular strength was the practice’s work supporting people with long-term conditions. The practice offered dedicated clinics, information packs and referrals to Expert Patient programmes to help people manage their own health. Healthwatch was also impressed by the monthly lunch club organised with Contact the Elderly for patients over 75 who live alone, which helps reduce loneliness and supports wellbeing.

Healthwatch concluded that Storrsdale Medical Centre provided a high-quality and patient-focused service. Patient feedback was overwhelmingly positive, and no recommendations for improvement were made. The report highlighted the practice’s strong relationships with patients, active Patient Participation Group and innovative work tackling social isolation as examples of good practice.
