Summary of report content

Healthwatch Hull gathered feedback from 81 people between January and March 2026 through outreach events, community visits, online feedback and engagement activities. Across all services, the most common concerns related to parking and transport, access to services and appointment booking, while the most common positive theme was caring, kindness, dignity and respect shown by staff. GP services generated the largest volume of feedback, followed by hospital services and adult social care.

Feedback about GP services was mixed. Patients praised the quality of treatment and supportive staff, with positive comments about individual practices and clinicians. However, many raised concerns about difficulties obtaining appointments, long telephone waits and the increasing use of online booking systems. Access to services and appointment booking were the main issues reported, with some patients feeling frustrated by lengthy waits or struggling to navigate digital systems.

Hospital feedback was largely positive regarding staff attitudes and quality of care, with many patients highlighting compassionate treatment and person-centred support. Nevertheless, delays, poor communication and long waits continued to be recurring themes. Adult social care generated particularly positive feedback, with residents and relatives praising staff commitment, communication and quality of life in care settings, although concerns about staffing levels were also raised.

Healthwatch concluded that while many residents reported positive experiences, particularly regarding staff attitudes and quality of care, ongoing issues around access, communication, appointment systems and transport continue to affect patient experience across Hull’s health and care services. The report is used to inform providers, commissioners and local decision-makers to support service improvement.
