Healthwatch Barnsley carried out an Enter and View visit to Royal Court Residential Home in Hoyland on 8 July 2026. Overall, the home made a very positive impression. Residents, relatives and staff consistently spoke highly of the care provided, describing the home as friendly, welcoming and well managed. Healthwatch found a clean, bright environment with a strong sense of community and staff who knew residents well and treated them with kindness and respect.
Residents and families were particularly positive about the quality of care, food and activities. The home offered a varied programme of group and one-to-one activities, regular outings and themed events. Families praised the manager and staff for their communication, responsiveness and compassion, especially during challenging periods such as end-of-life care. Residents spoke positively about the food, opportunities to personalise their rooms and the support they received from staff.
Staff described a supportive working environment with good teamwork, training opportunities and strong leadership. Healthwatch noted examples of good practice including personalised care, flexible meal choices, strong links with healthcare services and creative activity provision. The home was also developing additional facilities, including a sensory room, to further enhance residents’ wellbeing.
Healthwatch concluded that Royal Court provides a caring and supportive environment where residents feel safe, respected and well looked after. Recommendations were limited to reviewing older en-suite facilities and strengthening systems for tracking personal items such as glasses. Overall, the report highlighted Royal Court as a well-run home with high levels of resident, family and staff satisfaction.
