Summary of report content

Healthwatch Cheshire conducted an Enter and View visit to Cranford Grange in Mobberley, Knutsford, a care home providing residential, nursing, dementia and respite care. Overall, feedback from residents and relatives was extremely positive. Residents described feeling cared for, respected and secure, with comments highlighting the kindness of staff, the quality of care and the companionship available within the home. Relatives also praised staff for being caring, responsive and approachable. Healthwatch observed a warm, welcoming environment where residents appeared relaxed, well cared for and actively engaged in daily life.

The home demonstrated a strong commitment to person-centred care. Residents were supported by a consistent staff team, with no use of agency staff, helping to build positive and trusting relationships. Digital care plans were reviewed regularly, with residents and families encouraged to contribute. Residents had access to a wide range of healthcare professionals, including GPs, specialist nurses, therapists, opticians, chiropodists and dental services. Healthwatch observed respectful interactions throughout the home, with staff supporting residents’ privacy, dignity and independence.

A particular strength was the wide variety of opportunities available to residents. A dedicated activities team provided activities seven days a week, including quizzes, arts and crafts, entertainment, outings, social events and one-to-one sessions for those who preferred to remain in their rooms. The home also maintained strong links with the local community through partnerships with schools, community groups and local organisations. Residents benefited from extensive communal facilities, attractive gardens, personalised bedrooms and a varied menu prepared on site, with dietary requirements and individual preferences accommodated.

Healthwatch found many examples of good practice and identified only minor opportunities for improvement. Recommendations focused on continuing to promote resident involvement in care planning and expanding the range of products available in the home's shop based on resident preferences. Overall, the report concluded that Cranford Grange provides high-quality, compassionate care in a welcoming and well-maintained environment supported by an experienced and dedicated staff team.
