Summary of report content

Healthwatch North East Lincolnshire carried out an Enter and View visit to Church View Care Home in Great Coates to assess dignity, safety, staffing, personal care and medication management. The home accommodated 22 residents at the time of the visit and was described as having a friendly, relaxed and homely atmosphere. Staff were observed to be welcoming, knowledgeable and supportive, and residents appeared well cared for, appropriately dressed and comfortable in their surroundings.

Healthwatch found good standards of care, with staff demonstrating a strong understanding of residents' needs, privacy and dignity. Residents were supported to make choices about meals and daily routines, bedrooms were personalised, and staff were observed interacting with residents in a kind and respectful manner. Medication administration was carried out safely, with appropriate storage, recording and monitoring procedures in place.

The home offered a programme of activities and was developing additional features, including a themed 1940s room to support reminiscence and engagement. Safeguarding arrangements, emergency planning and staff training were generally found to be effective, and Healthwatch noted low staff turnover and positive morale among employees.

Overall, Healthwatch concluded that Church View provided a good quality service with caring staff and a positive environment. Only two minor recommendations were made: to review mental health training opportunities for staff and to continue planned improvements to the garden area and themed activity spaces.
