Healthwatch County Durham undertook an Enter and View visit to Hampton Manor Care Home in Consett on 1 July 2026. Overall, feedback from residents, relatives and staff was overwhelmingly positive, with the home described as welcoming, caring and homely. Residents reported being treated with dignity, kindness and respect, while families felt well informed and involved in decisions about care.
A key strength of the home was the quality of relationships between staff, residents and families. Staff were frequently described as friendly, compassionate and responsive, often going above and beyond to support residents. Residents valued the personalised approach to care, flexible routines, varied activities and the ability to personalise their rooms and daily lives. Staff also described a supportive workplace culture and strong teamwork.
A small number of areas for improvement were identified. Residents and relatives would like more opportunities for outings in the local community and additional evening activities. Some comments were made about ensuring meals are always served hot and offering greater variety, while Healthwatch also noted the importance of ensuring residents feel able to speak freely about any concerns or experiences.
Overall, Healthwatch concluded that Hampton Manor provides a high-quality, person-centred service with very high levels of resident and family satisfaction. Recommendations focused on expanding opportunities for community outings, continuing to support resident involvement in decision-making, maintaining the positive culture among staff and enhancing mealtime experiences.
