Enter and view: Meadows House Care Home

Healthwatch Greenwich undertook an Enter and View visit to Meadows House Residential and Nursing Home on 24 January 2018. Overall, the home was found to be clean, well organised and caring, providing nursing and dementia care for Greenwich residents. Staff were observed to be friendly, professional and attentive, and residents appeared comfortable, content and well looked after. 

The home offered a range of activities, access to group outings through council transport services, regular newsletters and support for residents' religious needs. Healthwatch was particularly positive about the efforts made by staff and catering teams to provide residents with appropriate meals and meaningful activities.

The main concerns related to the physical environment and security rather than the quality of care. Parts of the building required maintenance and redecoration, and managers reported difficulties progressing repairs because responsibility for the building sat with the Royal Borough of Greenwich. Healthwatch also noted that visitors could gain access without being challenged or signed in, raising concerns about reception and entry arrangements. Further improvements were recommended around dementia-friendly signage, personalised room identification and information displays.

Overall, Healthwatch concluded that Meadows House provided a positive and caring environment, with dedicated staff and good standards of resident support. Recommendations focused on improving maintenance, strengthening visitor reception arrangements, enhancing dementia-friendly features and ensuring residents and visitors had access to a wider range of information and local resources.
